Join us for the IRISH CEILI DANCE at McCarthy's Red Stag Pub!
A Ceili (kay-lee) is a traditional Irish gathering of fun, fellowship, a bit of dancing, and laughs. Traditional Ceili dances were enjoyed all over Ireland at house parties and crossroad gatherings in the rural countryside, decades later they are still enjoyed in pubs and dance halls. The Bonfire, Haymakers Jig, Siege of Ennis, Fairy Reel and more are very easy to learn, and most new dancers can pick them up on their first attempt.
Our dance instructors and callers, Jeanie and Mike Cunningham, will teach the basics at the start of every ceili, and from there the dances will be walked through. Jump in and join in the fun, as you won't learn from the sidelines! We'll dance jigs, reels, hornpipes and a waltz.
Ceili dancing is suitable for all ages, so bring the whole family along.
It's suggested that you wear cool, lightweight clothing - or layers - so you can adjust as things warm up. Leather soled shoes, or soft-soled sneakers that glide are best. Cold pints and martinis are available at the bar for general merriment and refreshments.
